An Exploration into the Teaching Model of Relational Rituals from the ELF Perspective" />

Abstract: This study, drawing on constructivist pragmatic theories and ELF research, aims to propose a tentative model for teaching relational rituals, so as to provide reference for future discussions on pragmatic pedagogy and research. The proposed teaching model of relational rituals are characterized by the following features: 1) using complete communicative scenarios as teaching units instead of isolated speech acts or single conversational adjacency pairs as adopted in previous teaching models; 2) focusing on meaning negotiation and relational work between interlocutors concerned in the communicative events; 3) adopting ELF norms that serve to promote mutual understanding instead of the EFL norms of native English speakers.
