Abstract：Abstract: The complexity of translation has made it feasible and practical for translation studies (TS) to draw on the various disciplines of social science. In the past 20 years, comparative literature studies and cultural studies have contributed much to TS in terms of understanding its nature, broadening its horizons, as well as enhancing its social stance, while sociological approach to TS has not made its due contribution. However, why should TS should take the sociological approach? What can sociology do for TS? How should TS respond to sociological approach? Such questions still go in short of systematically disciplinary answering, especially in the field of TS itself. Therefore, this paper attempts to take the disciplinary stance TS, discussing its problematic scopes, reflecting upon the practical significance of the sociological approach to TS.
