A Narrative Inquiry into Excellent College English Teacher’s Professional Development: Based on the Development of Teachers’ Personal Practical Knowledge
Abstract:With the method of narrative inquiry, this article investigated the effective college English teachers’ professional development from the perspective of their personal practical knowledge. It focused on two questions: 1)What are the characteristics in effective college English teachers’ constructing their personal practical knowledge and 2) What factors contribute to the construction of their personal practical knowledge. Through cross-case analysis, it was found that: 1) The construction of the three effective college English teachers’ personal practical knowledge has the characteristics of being practical, reflective, interactive and autonomous and 2) Effective college English teachers’ construction of personal practical knowledge was influenced by individual factors such as teacher’s personalities and their educational background and external factors, like family environment and other people’s role model.
