The concept of “intertextuality” is significant to critical discourse analysis in that it enables us to analyze and make judgments about the meaning and value of one text in its relation to other texts. However, as pointed out by Allen (2000), “Intertextuality” is one of the most widely used but the most misused terms in contemporary critical vocabulary. In this article we try to explicate the meaning, development and application of this concept and some other related concepts in critical discourse analysis.
