Abstract:This current study sampled 182 English teachers from 118 universities/colleges in mainland China and employed questionnaire to investigate their motivations to participate in “Visiting Scholar Program (VSP)”. The exploratory factor analysis yielded seven types of motivations, which were ranked from top to bottom as situational motivation, intrinsic motivation, motivation of social responsibility, motivation of constructing academic relationship, motivation of escaping burn-out, motivation of pursing academic achievements and motivation for future career competition. The paper also analyzed the features of teachers’ motivations based on 12 teachers’ interviews and finally proposed the constructive suggestions.
