Abstract:Abstract: Taking Mona Baker’s Narrativity as a theoretical basis, this article discusses the framing of four narratives in Sidney Shapiro’s English version of Xiao Erhei Jie Hun and the functions of it. By exploring the translation process of Xiao Erhei Jie Hun and conducting a contrastive analysis of the original text and its English version, the study concludes that China International Publishing Group succeeded in framing the ontological narrative (the socialist new China) by controlling the selection of the original text and the translator on the macro level, while the translator Shapiro adopted liberal translation to frame the public narrative, conceptual narrative and ontological narrative appearing in the early years of new China, hence shaping a positive image of the socialist new China in the target culture.
