Abstract：Abstract: This paper discusses the necessity of retranslating classics from the perspective of process philosophy and explores the significance of retranslating to the communication between the Chinese culture and other cultures. According to process philosophy, each of the basic elements of translating activity，i.e. the actual entity, is a process of becoming. The actual entities interact with each other and，therefore，construct an interconnected network. Since the meaning of original text, translator, target reader and culture etc. are all in constant evolution, new translations are to be produced inevitably. Meanwhile, as creativity is the ultimate abstract principle of an actual entity, the production of translation is a creative advance toward novelty and, therefore, there is no such a thing as final or perfect translation. In a specific historical period, retranslations in new forms fitting the historical context help improve the reception of traditional Chinese culture in another culture. In the long run, continuous production of retranslations help construct Chinese value system in target culture.
