Abstract:Abstract: While Chinese mainland scholars have increasingly been pressured and motivated to publish internationally, an inevitable issue they face in English academic writing practices is language. Drawing on the perspective of ecosocial systems theory, this study analyzes three Chinese linguists writing for publishing. The study finds that their language problems in writing for publishing are shaped by and shaping an interactive ecosocial system, whereby various factors are co-dependent and co-evolving. The findings suggest the important role of building an ecological view of language in the acquisition of second language academic genres. These findings have implications for Chinese scholars handling language issues in their writing for publication.
