Abstract:Abstract: Researches on evidentiality in academic articles from multidisciplinary perspective have been taking an upward trend. The data of this study were taken from SCI and SSCI professional journals concerning 4 disciplines, namely, Journalism, Linguistics, Biology and Chemistry, with 20 articles collected from each one. All of them were written by Chinese scholars. Based on the analysis of the use of evidentiality, results reveal that , on the whole, no remarkable discrepancy was found in the frequency of using evidentials between Social Sciences (Journalism and Linguistics) and Natural Science (Biology and Chemistry); and evidentials are commonly used in the 4 disciplines, especially, the majority of evidentials are mainly reporting evidentials and inferential evidentials; as for the same type of evidentials, research articles from different disciplines favor some special linguistic expressions. The reason may be the discrepancy of different ways and styles of presenting ideas between the Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, and their disciplinary linguistic convention as well.
