Abstract:Abstract: The current research intends to reflect on and extend the mood, modality and appraisal system within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics based on the theory of Ecological Sense of Place. This research shows that: 1) In analyzing mood types from an ecolinguistic perspective, the social status as well as social responsibility of the text addresser should be taken into consideration in addition to the mood types of clauses; 2) In analyzing modality types from an ecolinguistic perspective, a joint consideration should be given to the degree of modality value and the experiential meaning of the clause; 3) In analyzing appraisal resources from an ecolinguistic perspective, the dimensions of emotional origination, judging standards and appreciation values should be considered. In the hope of bringing the discipline to a new frontier, this research provides a workable theoretical framework and an analytical approach for ecolinguistic researchers who explore interpersonal meanings.
