Abstract:Abstract: This article reviews the introduction of foreign ecolinguistics into the Chinese scholarship from the perspectives of the introducing scholars, contents, approaches and motivations, with an attempt to clarify the academic impact of foreign theories on the localization of Chinese ecolinguistics. Through observation, the article suggests that: 1) the introduction of foreign theories has basically gone through three phases- the introducing, developing, and current flourishing ones, by retrospecting the representative literature and academic activities;2) The choices of the introducing contents and approaches at each phase are inclined to be motivated by the ecological research orientations and views on ecological philosophy of those concerned Chinese scholars; 3) On that account, Chinese scholars have integrated foreign theories with Chinese context and traditional ecological wisdom, and proposed such new concepts as harmonious discourse analysis and international ecological discourse. The article concludes that such introduction of foreign ecolinguistic scholarship can be regarded as the development and improvement of foreign ecolinguistic theories in the Chinese context, and it can exert a profound influence on the process of ecolinguistics in the global context.
