Abstract Abstract: This paper, adopting qualitative and quantitative methods, presents a statistical and descriptive analysis of the revisions at lexical and syntactic levels in Zhu Shenghao’s translation manuscripts of The Middle Summer Night’s Dream. Based on the analysis, the characteristics in the translation manuscripts are also identified with corresponding explanations. Taking the “descriptive-explanative” approach in Descriptive Translation Studies, the analysis has shown that the revisions in Zhu’s translation manuscripts reveal his pursuit of “readability” and “performability”, which results from the joint influences of the socio-cultural background of the historical period and Zhu’s individual habitus.
