A Multimodal Approach to the Design of Extended Learning System for College English

Abstract

Currently, the development of multimedia technology and multimodal theory provides educators with adequate practical condition and theoretical foundation to build up an extended learning system in College English education. Based on the belief that learning should be a process of multimodal interaction, this paper presents an analytic model for the design of extended learning system for College English from the perspective of multimodal learning. The design principles, educational contents, participants' roles, activity conditions and evaluation methods are discussed in detail, which are regarded as some important perspectives to construct an efficient system with the characteristics of multi- hierardy, personalization and ecologicalization for different college English learners.
