Abstract:Abstract: After a brief examination of the relationship between Contrastive Linguistics and Linguistic Typology, this paper delineates two types of contrastive studies from the perspective of Linguistic Typology, namely, contrastive studies based on theoretical hypotheses made in Linguistic Typology and Universal Grammar-oriented contrastive studies. The characteristics of these two types of studies are specified and their implementations are illustrated with concrete examples.
