Abstract:Abstract: The lack of training in research methods has made it difficult for Chinese foreign language teachers to publish in high-quality international journals. Focusing on the use of ERPs and corpus methods, this paper illustrates the trend of using empirical methods to provide Cognitive Linguistics theories with “objective” evidence and points out the importance of the cultivation of research methods among Chinese foreign language teachers. From the ERPs perspective, we pinpoint that ERP experiments can provide evidence for the conceptual blending theory, the conceptual metaphor theory and Cognitive Grammar in Cognitive Linguistics. From the corpus method perspective, we recognize that the marriage of Cognitive Linguistics and corpus methods has become one of the trends in Cognitive Linguistics research. Finally, we emphasize the cultivation of research methods among foreign language teachers to lay solid foundation for their international publications.
