Abstract：Abstract: Based on the analysis of SSCI linguistics and applied linguistics articles, this paper shows that the number of papers published by Chinese scholars in Mainland China in this field is constantly increasing. However, the international impact is still minimal. With reflections of personal experience in research and in international publication, the author analyzes and discusses the current situation and problems challenging Chinese scholars who try to publish internationally in the field of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in terms of scientific research evaluation system and academic career development. In addition, the paper offers some advice from the perspectives of individual scholars, Chinese scholars as a group, and university research evaluation systems, in order to arouse other colleagues’ thinking and discussion.
