Abstract:The implementation of the educational idea of content and language integration (CLI) re‐ quires assessments that fulfill its educational objectives. Centering on four key issues in the matter including the internal relationship within content and language integrated assessment, constraint factors, discipline fulcrum and task design, this paper clarifies its concept essence, and constructs a theoretical framework that integrates the following key components: assessment criteria, input and output, assessment tasks, and disciplinary needs. Building on the framework, the paper proposes a content and language-integrated view of assessment covering five areas: the attributes of this view, task types and scoring used, the content of knowledge assessment, the scope of assessment application, and the orientation of its development. The paper also discusses future directions and prospects of research on the proposed assessment framework and its application.
