Abstract:National consciousness underpins the construction of nation-states, promotes citizens’ alle‐ giance to their national politics and laws, and consolidates patriotism. This paper reflects upon the imbalance of national consciousness and international vision in China’s foreign language ed‐ ucation practice, while probing into the dilemma of promoting national consciousness in the con‐ text of globalization. The cultivation of national consciousness in China’s foreign language edu‐ cation in the “New Era” should be structured upon China’s history, ethnicity, cultures and native languages to truly enhance academic production and cultivate foreign language talents and train‐ ing personnel for the sake of the great Chinese national rejuvenation.
