Abstract：Abstract: Prefabricated Chunks (PCs) is often theorized to be highly recurring in the process of bilingual rendition in interpreting, but little empirical research is available, especially on those entrenched as pragmatic markers. The current study made use of trainees’ interpreting corpus to investigate the frequent 4-gram PCs that function as pragmatic markers. The analysis focused on the frequency of components in the slots. By comparing to source language, the results showed that PCs produced frequency effects by adding components of high frequency. In this way, PCs have functions related to stance taking, pragmatic explicitness and pragmatic enrichment. Furthermore, the use of PCs, leading to an unmarked interpreting strategy, improves communication efficiency and reduce cognitive load in interpreting at the same time.
