Abstract：Abstract: It has been already 60 years since William Faulkner, as a master of Stream of Consciousness, was introduced into China in 1958. Although Li Wenjun, an accomplished contemporary scholar and translator in China known for his high prestige for his translation of Faulkner, there still exists a distressing lack of specialized research in his views and philosophies on translation. This study attempts to tag into Li’s translation views by means of a comprehensive investigation of Li’s achievements and his related paratexts on Faulkner. It is found that Li, as a significant participant of New Period's construction of national culture, seeks affinity from the conflicts between translator’s responsibility, political correctness as well as consciousness of readership; thus forming the core spirit of his translation idea. The study also sheds some insights for further research into translator’s manipulation.
