Abstract:Abdulrazak Gurnah is a representative writer of African and African diasporic literature. A comprehensive review of the research on Gurnah both at home and abroad indicates that existing Gurnah studies have already developed a wide range of research perspectives with fruitful out¬comes, including investigations of spatial writing, historical writing, refugees themes, identity is¬sues, narrative strategies and bilingual writing. However, there are also some obvious gaps and issues that deserve further research, such as the insufficiency of research on local African ele¬ments in Gurnah’s works, the lack of holistic and systematic research on his works and his thoughts on literary criticism. In China where research on Gurnah is still in its infant stage, it will be imperative to have a comprehensive understanding of current international research on Gurnah, address existing problems, and explore new research paradigms with Chinese characteristics to construct an academic discourse system with Chinese style and Chinese mode in the field of African and African diasporic literature studies.
