Abstract:Construction grammar has received considerable attention from scholars since its birth. As one of the prominent theories of cognitive linguistics, it has been developed for nearly four decades and has attained some achievements both in theory and application. However, simultaneously, some limitations of construction grammar have been gradually revealed, triggering reflections on and criticisms of the research on construction grammar. In view of this, this paper reviews the literature related to construction grammar published in SSCI, A&HCI and SCI-Expanded journals over the past four decades (1985-2022). It aims to trace and understand the development history of construction grammar, analyze its current research, explore existing issues, and discuss its future development trends, so as to provide some useful information for researchers in furthering the development of construction grammar and the study of construction grammar in China.
