Abstract:Abstract: The use of technology to assist foreign language education has been actively promoted in Chinese universities and has achieved acknowledged accomplishments since the turn of the century. Nevertheless, with the rapid development of technologies and their ever varying affordances, it is of significance to examine the status quo of computer-assisted language learning (CALL), the potential problems and areas for improvement. Against this backdrop, the current study, drawing on the research findings from relevant literature review and pertinent expert interviews, pinpointed the five main problems existing in such aspects as CALL theory and practices, top-down level planning, teacher development, and resources development and application in the Chinese context. The paper concluded with some tentative suggestions for CALL sustainable development in China.
