Abstract:Abstract: Based on statistics, this paper makes a discussion of the status of the domestic studies of translation strategies. It holds that the studies can be roughly divided into three categories: application-oriented prescriptive research, interpretation-oriented descriptive research and theoretical research. The prescriptive research of translation strategies focuses on such conditioning factors as cultural factors, textual functions and pragmatic meanings that are beyond the linguistic forms. Its research achievements have been made mostly in the studies of translation of practical writings. However, there still exist some weaknesses in the prescriptive research, like the lack of proper descriptions of the translation-conditioning factors and the conditions for applying translation strategies. The descriptive research of translation strategies came to a sudden emergence and has developed rapidly. But the descriptive research also has some problems, such as the monotonousness in its research methods and the insufficiency in its objectivity. The theoretical research has made certain achievements in probing into foreign translation strategy theories, the factors conditioning the choice of translation strategies, and translation strategy ontology. Based on the analyses of the existing problems, this paper has made several suggestions on future study of translation strategies.
