Abstract:Abstract: Ecological discourse analysis reflects how our ways of meaning affect the impact we have on the environment. In recent years the systemic functional approach to ecological discourse analysis has focused on transitivity. However, the complexity of ecological meanings represented at the clause level is yet to be fully explored in existing studies. Furthermore, few ecological discourse studies have focused on the analysis of educational discourse. In view of this, the aim of the current research is to construct an analytic framework on ecological transitivity analysis based on the transitivity theory of systemic functional grammar. By integrating the transitive mode and the ergative mode, the classification of participant roles in different process types is made more delicate. Ecological orientations of different processes are then determined under the guidance of ecosophy. Based on this, an ecological transitivity analytic model is constructed. College English textbooks are used to illustrate the application of the analytic model with the aim of uncovering the ecological beliefs implied in educational discourses and thus providing pedagogical implications for the teaching of ecological literacy.
