Abstract:Abstract: The purpose of the study was to explore the effect of two peer feedback modes (i.e. one-way peer feedback and dialogic peer feedback) on L2 learners’ oral performance in a Mobile Assisted Language Learning(MALL)environment and the students’ perceptions of the oral output-based peer feedback in the MALL environment. 32 English major students participated in this study and they completed two oral tasks and two modes of peer feedback in pairs by using WeChat. The results show that both peer feedback modes could promote learners' oral performance on accuracy and fluency. Compared with one-way feedback mode, dialogic feedback had a significantly better effect on the accuracy of oral output; however, no significant difference was found between the two modes in complexity and fluency. The results of the questionnaire and retrospective interview indicate that the participants held a positive attitude toward the MALL-based learning experience and they preferred dialogic peer feedback. The findings of the research may deepen our understanding of MALL-based peer feedback and may shed new light on the development of L2 oral performance.
