Abstract:Abstract: Legal translation plays a significant role for Chinese law to form self-expression under the global legal pluralism. The launch of the “Belt and Road” Initiative requires discourse of Chinese law to be understood in a more efficient way. The translation of Chinese law is not merely a simple language exchange, but a communication with the common law, civil law and Islamic law, hence Chinese law should express new concepts in an independent and cooperative manner, so as to contribute to the development of global rule of law with Chinese wisdom. Based on analyses and comparisons, this paper finds that legal translation plays an essential role in the construction of a new discourse of EU law that EU institutions have been seeking to. Both familiarization and externalization translation strategies were adopted to solidly support the construction and recognition of EU law. The translation of Chinese law can learn from such experience, combined with context-oriented translation strategy, to express discourse of law with Chinese characteristics.
